I signed up for a Calligraphy Class with one of the tour companies in Tokyo and I was the only one attending the class. There was the sensei (teacher), my guide and interpreter and me. The class was a little over 1 1/2 hours. I learned the history of Calligrpahy, the different brushes, the stone and ink and how Calligraphy has become an art and a "way". It is done with feeling and meaning and everyone writes the characters a little different, expressing the writer's emotions and inner self. I did three characters and had lots of fun.
